International submission - Community geographical indication and appellation of origin

Lisbon Agreement

Persons who have their permanent residence or registered office in the Czech Republic may apply through the Office for International Registration of Designations of Origin under the Lisbon Agreement for the protection of designations of origin and their international registration.

An application for registration of a designation of origin in the Register of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) shall be conditional on the existence of a national registration of the designation of origin.

In the context of the entry into force of the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on designations of origin and geographical indications (the 'Geneva Act') and Regulation (EU) 2019/1753 of the European Parliament and of the Council, it will only be possible, through the Authority, to apply for international registration under the Treaty of Lisbon for those designations of origin that do not fall within the scope of Regulation (EU) No. 1151/2012, No. 1308/2013, No. 251/2014 and 2019/787.

For designations of origin falling within the scope of these Regulations, protected at EU level and not yet internationally registered, an application for international registration may be submitted through the Office to the European Commission under the Geneva Act.
